How we can promote volunteering to your staff

Once you've seen how becoming a supporter can benefit your organisation and staff, the key issue is communicating to your staff what a great opportunity this is for them.

Ideally it is best for us to have single point of contact in each organisation who can liaise internally with relevant staff members, i.e. between teams, with internal communications and HR staff. This means that the scheme can be promoted quickly and most effectively.

If you can’t provide a single contact, don’t worry.  The scheme can be promoted in the following ways:

A representative from the Small Charities Coalition can come in to talk to your staff

One of the Coalition's staff or trustees can come in to talk about real life examples of volunteering for the Coalition and the differences it can make to both the individual and the charity.

To arrange for one of us to come in and visit please contact us direct on 0207 391 4812 or email us at supporters@smallcharities.org.uk

Promote the scheme via email

Please copy and/or edit the following template email to promote this great opportunity to your staff:

There's a great opportunity, thanks to the Small Charities Coalition, to enhance and develop your professional skills and experience and support a small charity to boot.

Small charities are often chronically short of key skills and staff and desperately need volunteers with more to offer than just a willing pair of hands. The Small Charities Coalition individually match charity sector professionals with charities lacking in those particular skills to give the charity the specialised support they need.

Employer-supported volunteering has a host of benefits for individual staff members, including:

    * Development of new skills through mentoring, consultation and coaching
    * The opportunity to enhance existing professional skills and gain to gain further experience by using them in a new area or in a different way
    * Improved self-confidence through advising and supporting others
    * If you also choose to become a trustee , there may additionally be opportunities to be involved in the strategic management of an organisation

We know that this is a really valuable opportunity so we are fully supporting the Coalition's work - any staff who want to volunteer will get time off to do so.

You can find more information on volunteering as well as first hand case studies at the Small Charities Coalition's website (http://www.smallcharities.org.uk/volunteeringinfo/) or sign up now (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=aL9wpbSjzoazTJsg5xxHZg_3d_3d)
