Dominic Ellison was the manager of Ackroyd Community Centre, which delivers children and family services, as well as support for other community groups. The charity was having trouble with a lack of funds and with the development of their business plan.

The Small Charities Coalition matched them with Richard Barron from Beatbullying. This is what Dominic had to say about the experience:

The match was excellent! Richard mentored us through our business plan and provided us with face to face, e-mail and telephone support. He was very knowledgeable, showed a lot of commitment and was very attentive and listened conscientiously to our needs.

Through this experience, I have received some quality support which has helped me with our strategy planning. I’ve also acquired a new skill that I now feel comfortable and happy to support another charity in.

For his part, when asked what he got out of the experience, Richard said:

A sense of satisfaction! Information which I was able to transfer has in turn made me feel reassured about my own job and of course I felt useful!
