This match between Empowering Families and Jo Gage, Head of Learning and Development at Cancer Research UK involved
face-to-face meetings and email exchanges over a 7 month period.

We got in contact with Jo to get her feedback about the match.

I got involved to get a different perspective on the Charity sector; to see what life was like for much smaller organisations, and for a good opportunity to build consultancy skills.  The match involved helping Empowering Families articulate their offer and decide on their direction. I have been working with them to create a fundraising strategy, helping Heather to look at things like risk and reward, and how to invest her, already stretched, time.

When asked what she has taken from the experience, after seven months of matching, Jo said:

It has been interesting to see how some of the tools and techniques that I use at CRUK can be applied on a much smaller scale. I’ve found it very rewarding to learn that some the things that I have come to think of as common-sense are new and useful to the organisation, it’s made me realise how much I’ve learnt over the years.

Match completed in November 2011
