Melanie Nightingale & Urostomy Association

In March 2010 Don Haines, National Fundraiser for Urostomy Association (UA), got in touch with us requesting support in his fundraising work. We sent out a message to our supporters asking if anyone was able to help. Fundraising Management Consultant Melanie Nightingale stepped in and kindly offered to share her expertise voluntarily with UA.

A year on from their match, Don got in touch to share some good news with Melanie:

It’s been a good year! 2011 is our 40th Anniversary so I took up one of Melanie’s suggestions and launched a ‘Ruby Challenge’ appeal which resulted in 6,500 worth of direct debits being set up.

On hearing this news Melanie offered a few more nuggets of advice and shared her thoughts with us on her experience.

I am so pleased that Don was able to undertake this initiative and that UA now have years of additional income to build upon, all with the minimum of investment, always a key priority for any charity.

Here are Melanie's thoughts on the matching service in general and what it has meant for her.

The Small Charities Coalition is an excellent concept and a charity I have worked with for a number of years. Any opportunity we have to strengthen our sector and increase the impacts of powerful work is to be celebrated and SCC enable this in a professional and organised manner. It is hugely satisfying to be able to use your skills and experience to add value to small charities who benefit enormously from low cost, high impact ideas.
